A trauma informed caregiving certification program developed by Dr. Karen Lawson, Neurolinguist; Dr. Richard Honigman, Pediatrician; and their team of child development specialists.
Our caregiver training program is strengths based and wellness oriented as we believe that caring for others begins with caring for oneself. r.e.a.c.h. stands for Resiliency. Empathy. Attachment. Compassion. Healing.
Using a multiple learning approach, caregivers increase their knowledge base and competency in trauma-informed care practice, learning about brain changes that cause challenging behaviors and techniques for defusing them as well as simple ways to create a harmonious environment.
Caregivers are taught to reframe stressful events and use therapeutic techniques to help children regulate and re-pattern experiences in order to support healing. Along with experiential and didactic learning methods, scientifically-based stress reduction exercises are used.
r.e.a.c.h. in Grenada
Caregiver trainings in Grenada take place in small groups in residential care homes as well as in retreat settings. Participants are connected by social media so that they may share positive caregiving experiences, work out challenges, and reduce stress by the formation of a broader community of like minded individuals.
We are currently expanding our training program into a digital curriculum to be implemented through a larger network. We aim to bring our proven methodology to eight additional communities in the Caribbean and Latin America within the next 5 years.
